Academic Exchange and Highlights from the 2025 UPCD International Dental Summit in the Philippines
Date: 2025.02.05
In February 2025, Associate Professor Dr. Ding-Han Wang and Dr. Hsuan Chen represented the School of Dentistry at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) in the UPCD International Oral Health Summit 2025, held in Manila, Philippines. This premier summit brought together dental experts from Southeast Asia, the United States, Japan, Hong Kong, and other regions to engage in in-depth discussions on integrating digital technologies into dental education and clinical practice.
Dr. Wang was invited as a keynote speaker and presented the topic:
"Artificial Intelligence, Extended Reality, and Microbiota Platforms."
His talk highlighted the team’s innovative work in AI-driven caries detection, extended reality (XR) simulation for clinical training, and the development of Taiwan’s national oral microbiota database. These contributions drew positive attention and sparked active engagement from international attendees, underscoring NYCU’s leadership in digital dental innovation.
In the same session, Dr. Hsuan Chen delivered a presentation titled:
"Controlling Esthetic Outcome of Veneers with Digital Chairside Restoration."
Focusing on clinical strategies for improving esthetic veneer outcomes, he introduced the use of CAD/CAM systems and real-time digital workflows to enhance precision and patient satisfaction in chairside treatments. His insights provided new perspectives on the efficiency and esthetic control of digitally driven dental care.
Throughout the summit, the NYCU team also engaged in productive exchanges with representatives from the University of Hong Kong, University of Malaya, Chulalongkorn University, and Tohoku University. The conversations explored potential avenues for collaboration, including student exchange programs, joint degree development, and international research initiatives.
This visit was more than just a presentation—it marked a meaningful step in global academic engagement and knowledge exchange. By sharing Taiwan’s advancements in dental technology on the international stage, the team also gained valuable insights from global counterparts. We look forward to continuing this momentum and expanding Taiwan’s visibility and influence in the future of digital dentistry.
