extended reality (xr) in medical
overview
Extended Reality (XR), encompassing Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR), is transforming the landscape of medical research and education. Our laboratory explores how these immersive technologies can bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. By integrating XR with objective clinical and educational scenarios, we aim to create realistic, safe, and scalable environments that enhance learning, diagnosis, and decision-making in medicine.
application
XR technologies are reshaping both clinical practice and medical education by offering immersive, interactive environments that enhance understanding, skill acquisition, and patient care. In clinical settings, XR supports surgical planning, and patient communication through realistic simulations and visualizations. In education, it allows students to explore complex anatomical structures, practice clinical procedures, and engage in scenario-based learning without risk. By integrating XR into both teaching and practice, our lab is creating a seamless pipeline from training to real-world application—equipping the next generation of healthcare professionals with the tools and experiences they need to succeed in an increasingly digital medical landscape.

The effectiveness of mobile augmented reality (MAR)-integrated oral health education for community-dwelling older adults.
The pilot study explores the integration of mobile augmented reality (MAR) in oral health education for older adults living in community settings. The research tests the effectiveness of MAR tools in improving participants' oral health knowledge and self-care skills. The results suggest that the MAR system significantly enhances knowledge and self-efficacy, although the usability of the system requires improvement.

Evaluating the effectiveness of a Mobile Augmented Reality (MAR) application for enhancing the learning experience of dental students.
The MAR application was used by students in a medical education setting, where it helped enhance their understanding of anatomical structures and medical knowledge by interacting with three-dimensional models. The study assesses student satisfaction and learning outcomes after using the MAR application.

How the MAR application helps patients better understand their medical conditions and treatment options to enhance shared decision-making.
Patients used the MAR application to view 3D models of their medical conditions and treatment options, which helped them understand their diagnosis and participate in the decision-making process. The study explores how MAR technology can improve patient satisfaction and trust in medical care.
